Review 1:
A very pure Lee Sau Yin style 80’s Hong Kong style police film, the plot is slightly rough but unexpectedly I like this relatively realistic and cold police film. Compared to the same year’s Heroes, this film is more like a few more tangled points of the provincial Hong Kong flag soldiers and less warmth of the Dragon Tiger Fung Wan, but also abandoned the usual Hong Kong film vase heroine, the main characters are only left in a very different position of Lei, Keung and his brother, three. Lui is a righteous man who understands his brother’s difficulties and harbours him, but he has his own bottom line, and in the end he dies because of his brother. This film comes from New Wave director Xian Qiran, who gives it an even more treacherous and disturbing air of fascination. The dual male setup of Lee Sau Yin and Wan Tsz Leung focuses on the changing relationship between the two characters: from colleagues and friends who share the same life and death to enemies who are at war with each other. Although it did not exceed the audience’s expectation, the in-depth portrayal of brotherhood really moved the audience. The addition of the younger brother, played by Lin Wei, reinforces a certain contrasting effect. The tragic ending is even more saddening.
