Film Name:猛鬼差館 / 魁星踢斗 / The Haunted Cop Shop

《The Haunted Cop Shop》 is a Hong Kong film co-directed by Lau Chun-wai and Wong Kar-wai that combines elements of horror, comedy and romance. The film tells the story of a police station, which used to be a military barracks during the Japanese invasion of China decades ago. After the defeat of the Japanese army, the Japanese officers committed hara-kiri, however, their ghosts are still alive and remain in the police station, and whenever there is a ghost festival, these ghosts come out to do harm to people.

The police chief does not believe in the existence of ghosts and spirits in this world, until a prisoner in the police station is bitten to death by a zombie transformed by a Japanese colonel, and the chief recognises the existence of ghosts and spirits after bumping into a real zombie. In the film, Jacky Cheung and Sam Hui play two policemen who are accidentally involved in a fight with a zombie while investigating a mysterious incident. The climax of the film is the scene where Jacky Cheung and Sam Hui go to the base camp of the Zombie King and risk their lives to nail him to death with wooden pegs. This scene is both horrifying and hilarious, presenting the audience with a combination of eerie horror and hilarious insanity.

Although 《The Haunted Cop Shop》 was a popular zombie film in 1987, the film did not follow the trend, but was a fashionable version of the police-zombie fight comedy, using the popular beat comedy formula and the thrilling and funny plots of a variety of Chinese and Western ghost films. The whole film is a laugh-out-loud, tear-jerking, yet heart-stopping experience. This film was also a rare masterpiece at that time, coupled with the joint support of the Hong Kong ghost director Lau Chun-wai and the artistic director Wong Kar-wai, it makes this film full of flavour, wonderful and bright.
