What is the attraction of being able to win so many awards at the 2023 Oscars?
Here’s how I understand the movie: first comes life, then comes the perception of the universe. Applying the perception of the universe to life turns it into a sci-fi movie, a sci-fi movie that solves all kinds of sorrows.
Evelyn a self-confessed failure and good-for-nothing woman is burdened with the pressure of being looked down upon by her father, an incompetent husband and a rebellious daughter. Her father doesn’t look favorably on her marriage, so she has to be feisty and live up to her father’s good looks. A daughter who comes out of the closet is unacceptable to her traditional father and herself, and would make her lose face. And her husband, Waymon, was always behind her, never feeling his strength, his power to support the family.
On the day when Evelyn was at her most defeated, suddenly something happened that changed her life, her husband suddenly became a man from a universe called the Alpha Universe and told her that she was powerful in the Alpha Universe and that he taught her to get out of the status quo and to come up with the strength to fight the forces of evil. This Alpha Universe husband has been tracking her for countless universes, I guess I would call them parallel universes. And if she wants to go places, she has to have a jumping off point to get between the other universes. With that being said, I’d like to express that this is very much like the higher dimensions we usually hear about, where we can walk around in parallel universes at will when we get to a certain dimension, without being limited by time and space. Of course, there is another state in the drama which is similar to the state of possessing a ghost, and the jumping point is what kind of ghost you want to possess yourself and have the power of this ghost. And the jumping point, I understand as the ability to gather emotions.
And that’s how Evelyn keeps traveling through different parallel universes, and the so-called evil force is her daughter Joy. Who says it isn’t? Mothers and daughters usually have a hatred that is created precisely because of love. All through the parallel universes Evelyn drags Joy along, and Waymon remorselessly follows Evelyn to protect her as well. After many times in the parallel universe jumping shuttle and struggle, finally, between Evelyn and Joey mutual understanding and accept each other’s love again, and this parallel universe is also Evelyn every time to do mental struggle and choice presented in the world. In fact, no universe is real, because what is presented is all appearance, and what is most real is feeling: suffering and joy. According to Buddhism, the more there is love and hate, the more they are bound together. Letting go is the only way to untie the knot. So many people talk about whether to forgive or not to forgive family members or people who have hurt them, I think it’s better to choose as you wish. The important thing about something like original forgiveness or not is that you are comfortable and have not hurt anyone else, because it is you who needs to let go, not someone else.
