Film Name:伴我纵横 / Rhythm of Destiny

The movie can actually be seen as an autobiographical work of Aaron Kwok, which is somewhat similar to his life. Aaron Kwok was already an accomplished dancer before he became famous, and the death of his second brother became the most memorable event of his life. In fact, Aaron Kwok’s second brother was shot and killed when he fought with robbers during a robbery. He had been very close to his second brother since he was a child, and the death of his second brother was a great shock to him.

In the movie, Chiu Ka Wah’s elder brother, Big B, is a so-called “bad guy” with the habits of a gangster, who has been a bad boy since he was a child, doing petty thefts and petty crimes, and was only thirty-three years old when he was sentenced to more than ten years’ imprisonment, and later turned to the business of diamond smuggling. Because of the local gangster’s attempt to get Big B involved in drugs, he gradually became disillusioned and returned to Hong Kong, where he had been away for many years. In fact, he is not bad in nature, emphasizing feelings, righteousness, and caring for his family. Under the persuasion of his mother and his younger brother, Wah, he borrows a loan shark to buy a dance hall, intending to make a fresh start. Moreover, he has become very restrained, except that his good brother still causes trouble. Perhaps, there is really no turning back in life and he has been on the road of no return from the very beginning. This reminds me of Nine Dragons. Although he loves and cares for Ka Wah, and his girlfriend Siu Hung and his good buddies Ah Kwan and Superman love his little brother very much, the jungle people can never get rid of their jungle habits, and the first time he went to support Ka Wah’s show, there was a clash, which caused Ka Wah to be punched. Later on, Ka Wah went to Big B’s dance hall to sing, and he was able to shine on the stage. In order to help his brother, Big B threatens judge Yip Hon Leung when Ka Wah applies for a singing competition, which backfires and Ka Wah loses the competition. The threatened judge calls the police for help, which results in Big B’s dance hall being raided by the police. Kwan, who sells drugs in the dance hall, is involved in Big B’s re-imprisonment, and his mother, who is overwhelmed by the blow, falls seriously ill and dies. Ka Wah is deeply angered by his elder brother’s behavior and the two brothers go their separate ways ……

Ka Wah’s mother had said to him before she died of illness: no matter what, he is your big brother, you can not be separated. In fact, Ka Wah’s anger towards Big B was also momentary. The grief of losing a loved one would not be indifferent to anyone else. After Big B was sent to prison, the family house was auctioned off to pay off debts. At this time, it was good that there was still Siu Ling by his side to comfort and inspire him, so that he could get back on his feet. When Big B finally finished his years of unjust imprisonment, Ka Wah had already become a big star in Hong Kong at that time.

By the time Big B is picked up from jail by Red, he is already in a slight trance. “Superman has been reduced to a car-polisher, and Kwan, who framed him, has fled to Taiwan. At this time, Big B’s jianghu habits have already disappeared, and all he has is a little brother. Just, from this time I realized that things will not be so simple, always feel that there will be something to happen.

When the betrayal of Ah Kun once again appeared, I guessed the end of the tragedy. As expected, after Big B watched his dear little brother’s last performance for him, he found out that Ah Kwan had brought his old enemies to try to bind Ka Wah, and was so angry that he once again took a knife to fight with the other side. In the end, Big B died in Ka Wah’s arms …… that moment makes you want to shed tears.

There are two other things I have to mention:

First, in this movie, Big B has thrown a coin twice, however, the second time to be more touching. The action of tossing the coin represents the deep brotherhood between them.

Secondly, Big B once said: Brothers are like hands and feet, and women are like clothes. However, he is much better than Liu Bei, he is sincere to his brother from the heart, even after Ah Kun betrayed him so that he was wrongly imprisoned for a few years, but still put the former hatred to the torch. But Ah Kwan is simply a scum, Big B is so generous, he is still avenge, this is still a person?

Big B has no love for women. From that time he sang for Xiaohong, you can see that he is sincere to her, no wonder Xiaohong so devoted to her, in his prison term is still waiting for his return.

Throughout the movie, I was attracted to Big B as a tragic character. The title of the movie is also very good: Stand by Me!
