Wheels on Meals 1984 Film Review: The Fast Food Trio

Film Name: 快餐车 / Wheels on Meals / Million Dollar Heiress / 快餐車

Thomas (Jackie Chan), a young Chinese immigrant in Barcelona, Spain, and David (Yuen Biao) make a living running a food truck. Another Chinese immigrant, the portly Moby (played by Sammo Hung), serves as a muscle for a detective agency and acts as its acting boss. One day, a customer commissions the agency to locate a woman named Gloria and her daughter Suvia (played by Lola Fana) within fourteen days. The only clues provided are a photograph of Gloria and rumors of her past involvement in the red-light district. With the agency’s boss evading debtors abroad, Moby enlists Thomas and David to assist in the search. They soon locate Suvia, now working as a pickpocket in a mental hospital, and uncover her true identity. It turns out the client who hired Sammo was the count’s butler. Sylvia’s true identity is the count’s daughter, entangling a massive inheritance left by the count and his brother’s scheme to seize it. Naturally, the story culminates in a heroic rescue battle.

The film’s fight scenes are spectacular, with the three-way brawl between Jackie Chan and his two partners leaving a lasting impression. Their agile moves, seamless coordination, and comedic dramatic moments are truly iconic. Among the villains, Benny Urquidez’s portrayal of the gang enforcer stands out. Urquidez, a former World Lightweight Kickboxing Champion, delivered memorable fight sequences in both “Dragons Forever” and “Wheels on Meals.” His climactic battle with Jackie Chan in “Wheels on Meals” earned the No. 2 spot on “Black Belt” magazine’s list of “The Greatest Movie Fight Scenes in History,” surpassed only by Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris’s showdown in “The Way of the Dragon.” ranking second only to Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris’s showdown in “The Way of the Dragon.”
