The Young Taoism Fighter 1986 Film Review: Awesome

Film Name: 阴阳奇兵 / The Young Taoism Fighter / Miracle Fighters 4 / 陰陽奇兵

Honestly, the whole film has its fair share of flaws—the plot feels disjointed, the character arcs are messy, and some cause-and-effect relationships are glossed over rather hastily.

But in terms of action sequences and innovation, it’s still a pretty solid movie.

But honestly, the special effects are pretty shoddy, and the character designs are a bit… indescribable and overly adolescent. I’ve always wanted to criticize Yuen Woo-ping’s taste in character aesthetics—the fight choreography is breathtakingly beautiful, but the characters themselves are frankly unimpressive. That said, he didn’t direct this film, so I’ll just vent a little here.

The female lead is quite good, and the magic-like concepts feel compelling. Still, it lacks some of the brilliance of the first installment.

The ending feels rushed—maybe they ran out of budget? But the solid martial arts sequences make it worth watching through the flaws.
