The Rocos accepted this mission, setting out to find the Winged Spirit King, the only being capable of restoring the Rainbow Bridge. This forms the narrative framework of “Roco Kingdom 3.”
In truth, rainbows are a beautiful phenomenon—bridges connecting hearts. Therefore, the Rainbow Bridge’s fracture should not stem from a random event like fireworks, but rather from the natural rift growing between the kings of the two kingdoms. As this rift and misunderstanding deepen, the bridge’s eventual collapse becomes merely an external symbol of the broken bridge within their hearts. While repairing the Rainbow Bridge objectively requires the Winged Spirit King’s power, subjectively it must be a restoration of the bridge connecting hearts.
Thus, how Dragon Star and the other Locks mend their psychological rifts, how pirates and Locks mend theirs, how a male and female pirate mend theirs, how two kings mend theirs, how a king and his ministers mend theirs… these should all be focal points of the film. Ultimately, the Winged Spirit King could only restore the Rainbow Bridge once all these fractures were mended—under the collective hope of everyone wishing for its reconnection, and through the convergence of countless small rainbows into a colossal energy. Only then could the new Rainbow Bridge become indestructibly strong, impervious to being severed by anything trivial (like fireworks).
Yet the film fails to depict the grafting of these individuals onto the rainbow within their hearts. This renders the concept of the rainbow lackluster and leaves the film’s theme feeling shallow. In fact, the film never truly pushes the Lock family to the brink—the Rainbow Bridge is restored within 72 hours, and no evil descends. This simplification is deeply unsatisfying, as it robs the heroes of the chance to confront a greater evil. Consequently, it fails to capture the breathtaking awe that would arise from witnessing them overcome immense darkness using the bridge built from their inner kindness, courage, and trust.
Admittedly, the two pirates are a highlight of the film. Some children, upon seeing the female pirate fondly recalling how the male pirate saved her, even murmured to themselves, “I feel like crying too.” In truth, these touching moments are the very forces that repair the Rainbow Bridge. The film fails to explicitly bring them together and present them to the audience. This is the result of a lack of overall conceptualization during the film’s planning. The film possesses the concept of a rainbow but fails to utilize it effectively—a regrettable shortcoming.
