Film Name: 大丈夫日记 / The Diary of a Big Man / 大丈夫日記

The plot is simple—a tale of red roses and white roses. Since he couldn’t let go of either, he decided to marry them both. He wanted both the figure of Carina Lau and the beauty of Joey Wong. But this kind of double blessing isn’t for everyone to enjoy.
First, you need the ability to speak appropriately to everyone—knowing what to say to people and what to say to ghosts.
Second, you need boundless energy.
Third, your wives can’t work in the same place—ideally, they should be in different countries, requiring constant travel.
Fourth, you must have a trusted friend to cover for you.
Fifth, you need immense wealth to sustain both women’s expenses and provide separate homes for each.
When you break it down, it’s exhausting—time-consuming, money-draining, and ultimately, you don’t truly enjoy the blessings of having two wives. Instead, you’re constantly hiding things, weaving lies to cover up other lies, and never truly enjoying family happiness. So why bother with two wives? It’s exhausting, requires endless deception, and leaves you living in constant fear of being exposed. Thus, monogamy not only protects women but also spares men a great deal of trouble.
Another point is that the film has many plot points that seem rather silly to us today. They appear to be contrived solely for the sake of advancing the story—a hallmark of a bad film, where the plot relies entirely on fabrication. Still, the premise is quite novel—it explores a man married to two women who must desperately conceal his secret from the other. This mirrors today’s mistress-keeping scenario, albeit a “legalized” version. Fundamentally, there’s little difference.
Monogamy protects not only women but also safeguards the marital rights of most men, thereby stabilizing societal development. When societal wealth becomes concentrated in the hands of a select few, human nature’s pursuit of advantage and prevailing standards of “excellence” dictate that virtually all desirable women will cluster around these privileged individuals. Less desirable women, in turn, will also seek to align themselves with this elite group. Once this polarization reaches its extreme, society risks revolution and turmoil.
