Film Name: 男歌女唱 / Let’s Sing Along

I’ve always had a soft spot for 90s Hong Kong films—they felt so down-to-earth, brimming with authentic Hong Kong flavor. Never dragging, they were as crisp and efficient as the locals themselves.
Though made in 2001, this film still feels delightfully charming.
I’d never seen Wong Tsz-wah before, but who knew someone could be so cheeky yet utterly endearing?
As for Auntie Mei, needless to say, her performance was so compelling it nearly made me forget her legendary beauty.
The film operates on a small scale, yet within that modest scope, it kept me laughing all night long. Often, I find myself wanting to skip the big, heavy-handed movies and opt instead for a little gem like this. It has warmth, it has emotion, it has love, it has friendship. That’s enough.
More importantly, it has laughter.
