Film Name: 霸王花 / Lady Enforcers / The Inspector
A pretty lighthearted movie. While Royal Sisters also centers on its female lead, it’s overly tragic and intense, unlike the Queen of the Ring series which is fun, funny, easy on the eyes, and packed with action scenes.
Three women make a play, and this film distributes screen time fairly evenly without any standout lead. The instructors are played by Hu Huizhong and Luo Fuluo—one stern and unsmiling, the other a genuine martial arts expert with solid skills. The team members include Hui Yinghong, Li Mingshi, Bai Anni, Chen Yaluen, and Wu Junru. Sandra Ng handles the shamelessly obnoxious comedy, while Annie Pak is absolutely stunning—so beautiful she makes the other actresses pale in comparison. Fanny Wong also has quite a few fight scenes, giving her a bit of a tomboy vibe. On the male side, Michael To carries the weight, with familiar supporting faces like Sam Hui and a young Andy Lo making appearances.
Honestly, it must’ve been tough for these delicate actresses to film this. The movie focuses on the training scenes for the “tough women,” with the final fight sequence being the highlight. The actresses personally tackled grueling tasks like carrying stones up mountain paths, scaling walls, rappelling down ropes, and shooting exercises. Behind-the-scenes footage shows they gave it their all—probably trained beforehand. Their formation drills and overall spirit looked pretty professional. Though the film’s production values feel slightly rough around the edges, you can tell they poured genuine effort into it.
Being a female-centric film, it inevitably includes tropes like love triangles, encountering scumbag men, older women, unattractive women facing rejection, and jealousy among female characters—serving as a sort of narrative spice. The final fight scene left a strong impression—that foreign guy’s monkey-style boxing was memorable. Most actresses aren’t martial artists, but their moves were surprisingly fluid and well-executed.
It’s still quite enjoyable to relax and watch these old stars showcase their creativity.
