Following “01:00 A.M.”, Wilson Yip was invited by Heng Yi Pictures to direct the film “Mongkok Story”. In the mid-90s, the “Young and Dangerous” film series took Hong Kong cinema by storm. Heng Yi Pictures sought to capitalize on this trend by producing several genre-specific films. By the early 2000s, Ye began experimenting with diverse film genres including action crime thrillers, comedy crime films, sci-fi action, and period martial arts epics. “Skyline Cruisers” emerged as one such venture. · Why We Recommend It:
Beyond the enduring pairing of Leon Lai and Shu Qi, the film showcases futuristic sci-fi elements through its high-tech criminal techniques. Its “tech-savvy” aesthetic extends to avant-garde costume design.
The film’s soundtrack, cinematography, and color palette are also noteworthy. It carries a strong “millennial vibe,” and watching it is an experience that broadens your perspective—you’ll encounter unique landscapes and witness how different social classes think and act.
While the sci-fi elements may seem overly fantastical to us today, a little imagination can make life more exciting.
