Film Name: 阿里巴巴2：所罗门封印 / Alibaba 2: Seal of Solomon
Compared to last year’s debut film “Alibaba and The Thief,” this sequel “Alibaba 2: Seal of Solomon” has abandoned the original’s sole highlight—the princess’s character arc—and devolved into a thoroughly unfulfilling, emotionally vacant, pure time-waster.
The film continues to rely on the director’s signature road movie formula: setting up a few obstacles, designing a handful of fantastical scenes, and letting the plot unfold almost entirely along a single thread—a laid-back approach of shooting whatever comes to mind. While there’s a minor twist involving King Solomon and the devil’s identity, it’s delivered without any foreshadowing or payoff, leaving audiences utterly confused. A handsome young man becomes the ultimate villain, instantly rendering his character development worthless.
By comparison, the llama remains the most memorable character, its every gesture, tone, and expression commanding attention. Its final fate is also quite amusing. Yet this minor subplot’s fleeting sparkle pales against the main story’s monotony—like a faint starlight against endless darkness, easily swallowed by the latter.
That said, the road trip film’s level design seems ripe for adaptation into games. Whether it’s the grid-based puzzles or the loop-based threading challenges, they could easily become casual mobile games. Unfortunately, the film’s IP fails to inject any brand value into such adaptations, making it unlikely to attract a significant audience.
The ending theme song is reasonably pleasant, a significant improvement over the previous installment’s “divine” music video—at least the singer isn’t stuttering through the performance.
Beyond these points, the film offers nothing else worth commenting on.
