In 1929 Vietnam was a French colony and a 15-year-old French girl was attending Saigon boarding school for girls. Her mother runs a very small school with little income, and she returns home during the holidays. She has two older brothers, Bill, who is a drug addict and a bully, and Paul, who is weak and often bullied by his older brother. One day, as usual, the girl said goodbye to her mother and took the ferry back to school, where she met a Chinese young man in a big black car, who was the only son of a rich overseas Chinese man. The Chinese man likes the white girl, so he strikes up a conversation, and the two of them hook up. The young girl knew from boarding school that some girls were prostitutes, and she wanted to try her luck with a rich man, so she took the initiative to talk to him. After disembarking, the two walked around Saigon and ate Chinese food at a restaurant together, and the man drove her back to school in his car. The next day, just after school, the black car was waiting in front of the school. The two soon fell in love. The man takes the girl to his mansion, a place where rich Chinese people often hide their daughters. Here they meet, bathe and play. Sometimes they did not return to school at night, and the school authorities had to inform her mother, however ……
“the lover”, as the English language itself is full of Romantic colors, even the biting of the tongue and lip in its pronunciation is full of deep feelings and full of romance. But in the modern marriage relationship, the meaning of “lover” has been given a very dishonorable and even a little ugly word meaning. In movies and television, we can interpret it as “loving each other but not destined to have any happy ending, only love one day to one day”.

From the first meeting, we can see his behavior and speech that there is no place to put the soul, he is nervous, shy and at a loss for words, even the usual smoking he even become fluent in doing this action, he really fell in love with her at first sight. One might think that he was light on sex, was he simply seducing her as a virgin? Was it love or sex? Is it soul love or physical love?
Personally, I think he is really deep in the quagmire of love, from the following points to see:
1, his family has a lot of money, can be a kind of high attitude to treat the family of her ah, why as the first love in the first meeting in the general performance of such a shortness of mind?

Forced by the family marriage to marry the fathers had been fingered for marriage and never met his wife. At the end of the day, she traveled back to France, and he could only “see her off” in his car in an inconspicuous part of the marina.
Her father died young, and she relies on her mother to support her family, which has fallen into debt as a result of her mother’s poor management. At the end of the movie, she travels alone to the place she once built with love, which is now empty, and waits for her “lover” on the ferry to France, only to see the iconic black caravan at the end, until the sea and the land are separated from each other, and he has disappeared from her vision… …
